Carolyn Seitz of the Altadena Sheriff's Station Community Advisory Council sent out this about the weekend's shootings:
The first was a homicide in which a juvenile was shot and killed on Altadena Drive.
There were 2 additional shootings yesterday. In one of these shootings, a person was shot. In the other, there is no apparent victim.
Pasadena Star News (or the San Gabriel Valley Tribune) carried some information which is also available on Altadena Blog.
The Detectives at Altadena Station are working with other Sheriff's Department investigators to gather information we all hope will lead to arrest and prosecution of the criminals.
The shooting on Altadena Drive that resulted in a juvenile being killed was likely gang related. For purposes of this investigation, I'm being told they are treating it as if it is gang related.
The investigators have not yet determined whether there was any connection between that shooting and the two that followed. They are also not yet aware of any event that triggered these 3 shootings.
Here is additional info from the Sheriff's Department about their recent request for additional resources for Altadena to address what appears to be an increase in gang violence. Keep in mind that when some people in our community see these additional resources patrolling, they call to complain. Please help us make the best use of all of the additional resources here to help us address the issue by calling to report even the smallest incidents you see or activity that is suspicious to you. You can help be a part of the solution. The deputies and detectives would be happy to have information and they will follow up.
Here's what Lieutenant Sanchez said:
It may not be common knowledge, but the Department mustered up additional personnel to patrol the Altadena community. The resources, that were diverted to Altadena Station’s jurisdiction, were countywide and included investigators with the expertise of gang violence. Altadena Sheriff’s Station began to get phone calls, from the community, inquiring about the extra resources that were being seen. When there is violent activity in the community, the Department pulls together, regardless of where the violence occurs. Violence is not acceptable and we will do everything possible (which includes soliciting the community’s support) to determine the cause as well as arrest/prosecute the offenders. It is imperative the community be involved, as the eyes and ears. Even the slightest information any community member has, should be relayed to the Detectives.
