Reader Chip Ossman is just giddy (well, that may not be the word) about his new appointment, and shares some thoughts:
I just received an email confirming I breathe, am able to email, and have promised that I am eligible to submit a Supplemental Application to serve on the "Citizen's Redistricting Committee" - of course, a lot of other people received the same email.
We now get to fill out the Supplemental Application. It, appropriately, asks a lot of prying questions, wants long answers, and will require a decent amount of time to thoughtfully respond. As the Committee to which we apply will be a huge commitment - no problem with using the application process as self-screening. However...
According to the website, there are ... 77 Altadena residents eligible to submit the Supplemental Application. Wow! There are 25,908 tentatively eligible applicants, state wide. State population is roughly 37,000,000, so .07% representation, while Altadena population is represented (77/45,000) at .17% - more than double the state average! No surprise to most of us Altadenians.Really fun, mind-numbing activity: click on www.wedrawthelines.ca.gov, then click through to list the Altadenians who have applied - anyone can add public comment to any applicant's name.
