Altadena town council Chairman Gino Sund has sent this email out to the newsgroups:
Yesterday I, along with two of Mr. Antonovich's deputies, met with the officials at Public Works who manage the trash hauling contracts for the County. The purpose was to get a update on the status of Altadena and to insure that the elements in our franchise agreement are the same as what was previously presented. With the change in personnel, there were indications that some of the elements of the contract had been dropped, particularly the backyard pickup service. There is some good news and not so good news to report.
The good news:
1. All previously announced service elements in the franchise agreement will be included. Public works will craft a new document that will codify the service elements and better define and explain the services, especially for scooter service and back yard pickup service.
2. The pricing environment is very favorable for the consumers. In other communities, monthly charges have been coming in below expectations. The not so good news:1. The County is still dickering with the Kinneloa areas as to whether or not they want to be included with Altadena. While the RFP for Altadena, or Altadena and Kinneloa, is expected to go out by the end of June, the new franchise agreement will not be operational for about twelve months from now.I will keep you posted on any developments.
