Greywater -- water that's already been used to bathe, wash clothes, dishes and the like -- can be a resource for keeping lawns and plants alive while keeping total water use down. There are some upcoming workshops exploring how we can exploit our greywater resources:
Altadena Heritage continues its "Heritage of Abundance" workshops with "Showers to Flowers: Redirect Your Greywater," to be held on Wed., June 23 from 7-9 PM at the Altadena Community Center, 730 E. Altadena Dr. Admission is $10, $5 for members of Altadena Heritage. Erik Knutzen, co-author of The Urban Homestead, will look at how greywater can be successfully used in the Altadena climate.
Altadena Heritage is also partnering in one of three "New Water" Family Festivals to be held in the area in coming weeks:
The Arroyo Seco Foundation, in partnership with the Foothill Municipal Water District and the Pasadena Department of Water and Power, is hosting three "New Water" Family Festivals during the month of JuneSaturday, June 12th - Descanso Gardens, La Canada-FlintridgeSaturday, June 19th - La Casita del Arroyo, PasadenaSaturday, June 26th - Altadena Community Center (this date only co-hosted by Altadena Heritage)
Each event runs from 10am to 12noon and are FREE, except the Descanso Gardens date, where general admission ($8/adults, $5/seniors/students, $3/ages children 5-12; free to guild members and children under 5) includes full access to the gardens all day.These family friendly festivals include fun activity tables plus the latest information on water recycling systems and smart irrigation for your homes.
