The LA County Board of Supervisors approved a ban on plastic bags this week, which will apply to grocery stores, drug stores, liquor stores and convenience stores. Starting July 1, 2011 for large stores, and Jan. 1, 2012 for small stores, customers will either have to bring their own reusable bag or pay 10 cents for a paper bag. It only applies to unincorporated areas like Altadena -- Pasadena, La Canada, and Sierra Madre will still have free plastic bags at their shops.
