Wasting no time, the Arroyo Time Bank will be in the neighborhoods picking ripe fruit this Sat., Jan. 29, in the morning.
Earlier this month, the Time Bank, RIPE Altadena, and Altadena Heritage held a meeting to look for ways to help decrease food waste in our area and keep in compliance with the Oriental Fruit Fly quarantine.
Kristin Petherbridge at the Time Bank says that "we are working with the USDA to ensure we are in compliance with the regulations of the quarantine. We will harvest the fruit and leave any that the homeowner wishes to keep -- all we ask in return is to bring any excess fruit with us for processing and sharing."
If you have a tree with currently ripe fruit that you would like have harvested, please contact Petherbridge. Please include your street address, a contact phone number, how many trees and the type(s) of fruit you have.
UPDATE 1/26: Kristin has a new email just for fruit picking requests: ATBfruitharvest "at" gmail.com
