Altadena Sheriff Capt. Steven McLean got a surprise last week.
The Association of Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs holds a survey of rank and file deputies every year to rate their captains, and McLean was one of the eight ranked highest of 60 captains rated. It's unusual for a first year captain to be ranked in the top tier.
He was notified when he stepped into a surprise party at the Community Center last Wednesday, June 29, largely organized by Volunteer On Patrol Jasmine Session. Volunteers, deputies, and other members of the community kept the lunch and celebration a secret until McLean walked through the door.
