We had an attempted burglary at our house today (Friday) at about 4:30 PM. It was the ole' ring the doorbell to see anyone is home routine.
We were in (the rear portion of our home) talking when someone started ringing the bell. They were ringing pretty furiously which made me think it was my neighbor and I wasn't going to interrupt my conversation to answer the door.
The person kept ringing and knocking and then we heard a voice asking if anyone was home. It was not our neighbor so I went to see who it was.
I ran into a young (16ish) Hispanic boy in the hallway. I asked what he was doing and then he ran to the back room. I followed him and saw another person climbing out of the window and the boy I saw followed him. I immediately called 911 and the sheriffs came.
Nothing was taken, though the second boy rifled through my desk.
Our front door was unlocked. A policy we will have to change.
