The Pasadena Master Chorale, which frequently sings in Altadena and La Canada, will hold a wine tasting fundraiser this Sunday, Oct. 16, starting at 5 PM at the Wine Detective, 146 S. Lake Ave., #109, Pasadena. Space is limited: reserve it here.
Cal State LA recently honored half a dozen faculty members during its 2011 Fall Faculty Day, among them Altadena resident Simeon Slovacek, a distinguished expert in school reform and program evaluation. Currently, he is a professor in the Division of Applied and Advanced Studies at CSULA. Slovacek has also been an invited visiting scholar at Stanford University and the University of New Orleans.
Reader Carol Momsen found this tidbit about one of the jurors in the Conrad Murray case (he's the one who may or may not have given Michael Jackson too much medicine): "Juror in Seat 12: A 54-year-old man, originally from Washington, DC, now living in Altadena. The past two years he has worked as a college professor after a 20-year career in animation with Disney and other studios. It was while at Disney, he told the court during voir dire questioning, that he was introduced to Jackson. Has a sense of humor. In response to the questionnaire inquiring if he followed the OJ Simpson trial, he wrote, 'Who didn't?'"
