The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reports that Matthew Hernandez, the hiker who went missing at Chantry Flats over the weekend, has emerged safely.
Hernandez walked out of the forest at about 3:30 AM Monday, and walked to a phone and called his father, according to a press release from the sheirff's department.
Sierra Madre Search and Rescue assisted by San Dimas Search and Rescue conducted search operations, with helicopter search by Los Angeles County Sheriffs Air-5 Rescue Saturday evening and Sunday.
Several family members also combed Big Santa Anita Canyon where Hernandez and several friends had spent several days on a photography project.
Weather in the canyon was very wet and cold due to a winter storm that moved in mid-morning on Sunday and continued into the early morning hours of Monday.
