A man found dead early Thursday morning along Angeles Crest Highway just above La Cañada Flintridge suffered a possible gunshot wound, said Los Angeles County Coroner spokesman Craig Harvey.
California Highway Patrol officers have closed the Crest to traffic as Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. detectives investigate the scene.
The body was discovered near the first turnout above the Angeles National Forest snow gate, about 2.7 miles north of the Foothill (210) Freeway near Angeles Crest mile marker 27, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Debra Herman.
The man’s identity has not been released.
[UPDATE 3:15 pm: A motorist passing by at 5:15 a.m. discovered the body next to the guard rail at mile marker 27.5, according to the latest statement by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. Officials have not identified the man except to rule out Gavin Smith, the 20th Century Fox executive that went missing 10 days ago. The statement confirms that ballistic evidence was found at the scene but does not provide details.]
