Multiple firefighting vehicles were called to a housefire on the southeast corner of Altadena Drive and Porter Avenue Tuesday night.
The call came in before 8 PM according to scanner traffic. Early scanner reports said a person was trapped inside the house.
The fire was quickly knocked down, and a woman was being observed by ambulance crews, although she was not being taken away to the hospital.
UPDATE 11/14: A county fire spokesman said that the cause of the fire was a hot plate or other cooking device in an upstairs bedroom. A victim was rescued by ladder from the bedroom but refused medical attention. She was given a room for the night by the Red Cross. The spokesman, who declined to be identified, said a strong attack by firefighters prevented the fire from moving downstairs. The structure suffered an estimated $80,000 worth of damage and $8,000 loss of interior furnishings.
