MonteCedro – the along-planned retirement community on the site of the historic Scripps Home – plans to finally break ground late this summer.
Martha L. Tamburrano, president/CEO of the Episcopal Homes Communities, told the Altadena Town Council at Tuesday night’s meeting, “This project is going to be a $100 million construction investment in Altadena, but what it’s really going to be is a long – term investment in the community.”
Tamburrano said that the project is going to bring about 100 jobs to Altadena with good pay, benefits, and stability In jobs including nursing, administration, dining services and maintenance.
According to a statement from MonteCedro, due to financing requirements, the development must have 130 residences, or 70%, reserved before construction begins, and they expect to hit that mark by the end of summer. Plans call for the development to offer 186 apartments and villas for adults aged 60 years and older,
Currently, MonteCedro is “deconstructing” homes on the property on the west side of Crawford Avenue and the north side of Alameda Street. The statement from MonteCedro says that materials from these buildings, such as wood doors, cabinets and windows, will be donated to the San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity.
The statement says that the development will have a security company patrol the property and that crossing guards will be located on Calaveras and Alameda to control traffic flow around the property, which is across the street from Altadena Elementary School. MonteCedro says it will also be working with local schools to educate students on construction science and safety.
DPR Construction of Pasadena is the contractor of the project.
