from Altadena Relay for Life
The American Cancer Society invites individuals who want to celebrate the lives of those who have faced cancer, remember loved ones lost and fight back against the disease to join its Relay For Life, scheduled for Saturday, June 1, in Altadena at Farnsworth Park. Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration where individuals and teams camp out, barbecue, dance, and take turns walking around a track relay style to raise funds to fight cancer.
The theme of this year’s Relay is Carnival. Teams have put together fun games like ring toss and balloon pops. Additional family friendly activities include face painting, a fun temp tattoo parlor and fortune telling. Lively entertainment is scheduled throughout the day: Trumpeter Nolan Shaheed and vocalist Varetta Heidelberg, along with Two Dragon Studio demonstration and Fair Oaks Music Academy. Fight back activities include the ever popular frozen t-shirt contest.
At nightfall, participants will light 600 luminaria around the track in a moving ceremony to honor cancer survivors as well as friends and family members lost to the disease. Pasadena Scottish Pipes & Drums will lead a memorable lap.
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life represents hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated.
