Altadena Heritage is involved in two events about water this week, and AH's Michele Zack says there may be some confusion about them. She offers this helpful information:
The Altadena Heritage greywater workshop offered this Wed., June 23 from 7-9 PM at Altadena Community Center (730 E. Altadena Dr.) is a nuts-and-bolts event geared to those who want to begin using greywater — and to do it themselves. The main focus is on washing machines, the lowest hanging fruit of safe and easy greywater use. It is expected that an actual hands-on workshop in someone's home will grow out of the evening's activities.
The Arroyo Seco workshop (10 AM-noon Sat., also at the Community Center) offers more general, educational presentations for families who are beginning to think about using greywater, and who would be more likely to hire a consultant as a first step. There will be kid-friendly stuff there. We originally were going to do this workshop together, but it became clear that there are two different missions. The Altadena Heritage event this Wednesday is part of our ongoing Altadena: Heritage of Abundance sustainability series, and brings back Erik Knutzen, author of the Urban Homestead and star of a previous workshop. Altadena Heritage is a co-sponsor of the Arroyo Seco Foundation event in that we helped them to make use of the Community Center, and we think their approach has great merit for a more general audience.
